Dental Care Centre is proud to provide a wide range of inhouse dental options. The gentle and experienced Gisborne Dentists will take the time to discuss the treatment options relevant to your dental issues to allow you to make the best choice for you. With a dedicated team of Dental Hygienists it has never been easier to stay on top of your oral health.
Dental hygiene (Scale and Polish)
Regular professional cleaning supports the work you do in between visits. Healthy teeth and gums rely on regular cleaning and while the majority of this work can occur at home the dental hygienist is able to remove any pockets of bacterial build up in hard-to-reach places like in between teeth and under the gum line. The regular removal of these hardened deposits minimise the potential for gums to become inflamed and for decay to burrow into the tooth surface. Book your hygiene appointment today.

Composite (White) Dental Fillings
Used to prevent the spread of tooth decay or correct small fractures or other damage, a filling is just one of the ways our dentists can restore the look and function of your teeth. Once any decay is removed composite filling material is used to replace the lost or broken part of the tooth. Composite filling material allows us to customise the filling to match the colour and shape of your teeth to retain the natural appearance of your smile.
Tooth Extractions (oral surgery)
Our dentists make every effort to help you keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. However extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or the tooth is badly broken. Extractions may also be required if a tooth is impacted or loose due to periodontal (gum disease).
Our skilled and gentle dentists use local anaesthetic to numb the area so while you may feel pressure you will feel no pain during the procedure.
Once a tooth is removed there are a number of different options that can be used to fill the gap. Talk to your Dentist about these.

Orthodontic Treatment (Braces)
Orthodontic Treatment is used to align teeth to improve both the appearance of your smile and the way the teeth work together. Dental Care Centre offers treatment for both adults and teens using either Invisalign (Clear plastic aligners) or traditional metal bracket and wire options.
Orthodontic treatment offers 5 key benefits
Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)
Root canals or root fillings are required when the tissues inside the tooth are dead or dying due to trauma from fractures or decay. The internal part of the tooth which comprises blood vessels and nerves is removed the cavity is cleaned and then the space or canals are filled with a special type of filling called a root filling. Teeth with root canals become more brittle over time and often require a protective restoration such as a crown to keep them from fracturing.

Tooth whitening
Professional at home teeth whitening is faster, more effective and longer lasting than the treatment you find over the counter. Custom made trays are made using an impression of your teeth to ensure the whitening gel is applied evenly to all surfaces of the teeth. The dental grade whitening gels are designed to minimise sensitivity while achieving maximum results.
Periodontal (gum) treatment
Keeping your gums healthy and clean is just as important as the surfaces of your teeth. Periodontal treatment involves removing plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline. Most gum disease is preventable with proper oral hygiene. Ignoring inflamed or bleeding gums can lead to periodontitis or gum disease. Inflammation can cause gums to pull away from the teeth creating pockets that bacteria can colonise. Overtime the bacteria can result in prolonged bad breath, loose teeth, painful chewing and impact other areas of your body such as your brain, heart and lungs.

Dental Crowns
Dental crowns (sometimes called caps) are used to restore a tooth when large portions of a tooth are lost.. They can also be used to restore a heavily filled tooth before it fractures. Dental crowns are made in a lab by a dental technician from a mould or digital scan of the prepared tooth. They are typically made from porcelain a tooth coloured product and if properly maintained can last the lifetime of the tooth.
Dental Bridges to replace missing teeth
Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth where there are teeth on either side of the gap. The process for making a dental bridge is similar to a crown except both teeth on either side of the gap are prepared for a crown. A mould or scan is then taken and sent to a dental technician to make the bridge. Dental bridges are made from a white material designed to look like your natural teeth and can be a great option for gaps close to the front of the mouth.

Dental Veneers (Porcelain inlays and Veneers)
A dental veneer is a thin layer of porcelain or composite (tooth coloured filling material) that is bonded to your front teeth and are used to improve the appearance of your smile. They can be used to correct gaps, broken or chipped edges, stained fillings and slight misalignments or discolouration to give you a beautiful smile.
Dentures (Partial & Full Dentures)
Missing teeth can affect more than just your appearance. They can impact how you eat, speak, and feel day to day. Dentures can offer a great solution to replace missing teeth and can be removeable or fixed in place using dental implants. They can be used to replace one or two teeth (partial denture) or all your top or bottom teeth (full dentures)
At Dental Care Centre we work with our trusted labs to create custom made dentures including full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures, designed to suit your mouth, lifestyle, and long-term oral health.

Implant solutions to stabilise loose dentures
Implants to replace missing teeth
Implants can be used to anchor dentures into the mouth. Most denture wearers find that a lower implant retained dentures the most effective as they improve the ability to chew foods they could not eat with regular complete dentures. Contact us to find out more.
Dental implants are small titanium anchors that are permanently placed into your upper and/or lower jaw bone. Over time, the implant integrates with your bone and acts very much like your natural tooth root in your jaw bone. This integration not only creates a stable foundation to attach single and multiple teeth or dentures to. Crowns, bridges and dentures anchored to these implants behave like your natural teeth.
Talk to your Dentist to see if implants might be the right option for you.

Panex x-ray
Rather than taking a small snap shot of one area of the mouth panex xrays offer the ability to provide a picture of the whole mouth and jaw to see what is happening with the teeth, tooth roots and bone of the entire mouth. Useful when assessing wisdom teeth, potential orthodontic treatment and looking at gum disease.
